About the Course

Greetings and welcome to our 12-week course on Jazz and Contemporary Piano. The objective of this course is to provide instruction on the foundational principles of jazz and modern piano performance. In this course, students will acquire the necessary skills to perform jazz standards, engage in improvisation within the context of chord progressions, and cultivate a distinctive musical style. The curriculum will encompass a diverse array of subjects, such as swing, blues, bossa nova, and minor keys. In addition, this course will provide instruction on fundamental jazz voicings, the Jazz Harmonic Language, and practise methodologies aimed at facilitating mastery of the repertoire.
The training is appropriate for individuals at both introductory and intermediate skill levels. A rudimentary understanding of music theory is recommended, encompassing fundamental concepts such as major scales, triads, and basic seventh chords. Successful completion of the Intermediate Keyboard course or an equivalent level of knowledge and expertise is a prerequisite.
The lesson is instructed by Aniefiok Emmanuel Asuquo, a seasoned pianist who possesses extensive experience performing in diverse musical situations, such as solo piano, accompaniment for vocalists, instrumentalists, and ensembles. The instructor will offer individualised feedback on your performance and assist in improving your proficiency as a pianist.

Emmanuel Asuquo

Aniefiok Emmanuel Asuquo established an organisation known as H.O.M.E (Helping Other Musicians Excel), which aims to enhance the well-being and circumstances of aspiring musicians. This initiative involves providing personalised assistance to these individuals in order to discover, strategize, and obtain the necessary resources to maximise their potential and successfully embark on their musical aspirations.
The primary objective of H.O.M.E. is to offer a diverse array of programmes aimed at supporting emerging musicians. These programmes encompass several facets of the music industry, including music education, production, administration, performance, and consultancy.
Additionally, the He held the position of Head of the Piano Department at the esteemed SPAN Academy of Jazz and Contemporary Music in Nigeria. In this capacity, He offered weekly instructional sessions and assumed the role of Music Administrator. Furthermore, He has held positions at The Reformed Urban Church, Sound City Communications PH, Lycee Francais Louis Pasteur (a French International School in Nigeria), and Xela Care as a music specialist and Music consultant.
He is recognised for his contributions in assisting, instructing, and assisting pupils in cultivating suitable music and leadership proficiencies for their forthcoming endeavours, in addition to offering individualised instruction to young learners.
His latest and most significant undertaking revolves around assisting children with special needs in attaining discipline, concentration, independence, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, attention span, sensory regulation, and musical memory development through the utilisation of music therapy techniques. He has authored a book entitled "The Music and the Creative Economy" and has also collaborated as a co-author on a second publication focused on African Ethnic Music.
